NAIROBI, Kenya May 23 – Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has appealed to Kenyans to be patient as he moves to crack graft in the Kenyan political and bureaucratic system.

He assured the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee that his office is geared towards securing more high profile convictions for graft suspects with a strengthened resolve and clarity of action.

“People think that we have slowed down on fighting corruption. I want to assure Kenyans that we have not.”

“Currently we are dealing with quite a number of cases that have public interest but they are very complex they are not your normal NYS cases that people went to the stores, did not deliver, did not take…this are very complex cases that transcend our borders. We are asking for Kenyans to be patient with us, but I think soon they will be seeing a lot more action coming in,” he said.

MPs in the Committee have challenged Haji to live up to his word that he will spare no one in his quest to end corruption and bring perpetrators of serious crime to book.

Haji said he is in the tail-end of negotiations with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission to improve the welfare prosecution officers as a bid to forestall the exiting from service due to poor working conditions.

The ODPP has gotten a budgetary allocation of Sh3.04 billion against their request of Sh4.6 billion.

Haji says they have earmarked Sh100 million for implementation of a new organizational structure; the ODPP further has an allocation of Sh250 million for anti-corruption and terrorism initiative.
