NAIROBI, Kenya, May 14 – The Director of Public Prosecution is seeking the detention of 15 people who were arrested Monday in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa estate with suspected fake gold stashed in 28 boxes for further probe.

This even as the suspects appeared before magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot and opposed the 14-day holding request.

Police had requested for the time to establish the nationalities of Abouma Famous, Salim Ali Abubakar and Albert Likole Lokunda.

Magistrate Cheruiyot has been urged to allow the application on grounds that besides the need to retrieve data and analyse from the respondent’s mobile phones, laptops and computers police are also looking into cybercrime related crimes.
But the suspects have asked the court to admit them to bail insisting police have no evidence to warrant their continued incarceration.

Also sought by the police are bank details of the suspects and a metal bar geologist to confirm whether it is genuine gold or not.

The court will rule on the matter in the afternoon.
