NAIROBI, Kenya, May 8 – Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Tuesday visited Isiolo and Samburu Counties after four National Police Reservists were killed in a clash with suspected cattle rustlers.
Officials said Mutyambai had to visit the area to calm tension amid fears of retaliations.
The reservists were pursuing stolen goats when they were ambushed by gunmen in the area.
Mutyambai visited both Isiolo and Maralal and met local security agencies as part of efforts to calm the tension.
He assured them of increased security as part of efforts to address escalating cases of cattle rustling.
Locals said tension remained high with calls for retaliation and push to recover stolen animals.
Police say the goats were stolen from Isiolo and were being driven to Samburu when the incident happened.
