DCI allowed to hold two more suspects in Sh400mn gold case for 5 days

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 24 – The Director of Criminal Investigations has been allowed to hold two suspects who are being probed over the Sh400 million gold scam for five days.

Joshua Gaya Anyanga and Evanson Njoroge Mwangi were arrested on May 23.

The prosecution told the court that the investigators need time to record statements from witnesses and also conduct an identification parade before making a decision whether to charge them.

“Police are investigating the offence o obtaining money by false pretence,” the court heard.

Already two other suspects have been charged and the case is coming for mention on May 28.

If the investigation reveals that the two were accomplices they will be indicted and their case consolidated.

The court further heard that at the time of arrest, police recovered several exhibits that includes mobile phones, computers, CCTV, PVR and assorted business documents which needs to be analysed by the experts.

The prosecution further told the court that the detectives have detained two motor vehicles that they believed to be connected to the offence under investigation.
