NAIROBI, Kenya, May 2 – The High Court has reviewed bail terms issued to former National Land Commission Chairperson Muhammad Swazuri to Sh7 million from Sh12 million.
In the alternative, he can post a bond of Sh15 million from Sh30 million.
Swazuri who has been in custody had filed the suit before Justice Mumbi Ngugi saying the initial terms were unreasonably high and should be revised downward.
He argued that the cash bail or alternative surety bond imposed by Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi was unjust, exorbitant and in contravention of Article 49 of the Constitution.
Swazuri and seven others have since denied more than 20 counts including corruption, abuse of office, financial misconduct, fraudulent acquisition of public funds and money laundering.
