Col (Rtd) Oguna named new Government Spokesman to replace Kiraithe

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 7 – Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Odhiambo Oguna has been appointed Government Spokesman with immediate effect replacing Eric Kiraithe who has been holding the post since 2016.

In a statement, ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru indicated that Oguna’s office will be based at the Ministry of ICT in line with an Executive Order from the office of the President.

He pointed out that the retired Colonel shall have an oversight role of all government communications channels under his ministry.

“Colonel (Rtd) shall have oversight role that include Directorate of Information and all county and sub county information officers, department of public communication and all the officers seconded to various ministries and government agencies, National Government Communication Centre (NGCC) and the Government Media Centre,” he stated.

Oguna is a career military officer and has held various positions in the management of personnel, operations, training and communications within the Kenya Défense Forces and government.

He is remembered for his role as the Kenya Defence Forces Public Affairs Office and Spokesman for KDF at the onset of operation Linda Nchi, a position he held for three years between 2011 – 2013.

Before his appointment, he served as the Joint National and Resource Mapping Project Spokesman.

He also had a stint as Defence Advisor Attaché at Kenya’s High Commission to Tanzania between 2014 -2017.
