Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng pledges support for the youth

NAIROBI, Kenya May 25– Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng has pledged to support Kenya’s youth who are faced with a high unemployment rate.

The envoy, who spoke during a courtesy call to businessman Chris Kirubi, said he is committed to assisting the youth because of the crucial role they play in nation-building, and since they are the country’s future.

“We will definitely do something for the youth of this country,” Ambassador Wu said, “I promise that in the near future we working for that.”He was responding to a request from Kirubi to consider supporting youth programs, which the businessman is heavily involved in.

“My prayer is that you find some budget to support the youth,” Kirubi said, “The young people are the future of this country and we want the youth to feel that apart from infrastructure development, you (China) also care about their job creation because we need to ensure that they are properly trained.”
Both did not immediately provide details of the specific support, which they said will be announced in the near future.

During the meeting, Kirubi lauded the Ambassador for his country’s support to Kenya in putting up the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Mombasa to Nairobi and to Naivasha.

“I know Naivasha is not the final destination, I know it will eventually proceed to Kisumu,” Kirubi said.
China is Kenya’s biggest development partner, having financed most major development projects in the rail and road transport.
