9 more arrested in fake dollars syndicate within Kilimani

The suspects are set to be charged in court on Monday/COURTESY-DCI

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 5 – Detectives have once again recovered millions of fake US dollars in Kilimani and arrested nine people.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), among those nabbed during Saturday’s operation include seven foreigners from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.

“Nine people among them seven foreigners from DR Congo, #Rwanda & #Uganda were arrested Yesterday in Kilimani with millions of fake US dollars,” it stated.

Through its Twitter account, the DCI states that the suspects will be taken to court on Monday to face various charges.

“The suspects are currently in lawful custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday to face appropriate charges.”

This is the fifth major recovery of fake foreign currency by detectives in less than 12 months, a trend that has put detectives on high alert.

Detectives on Friday recovered millions of fake US dollars in Kilimani during an operation that led to the arrest of seven suspects.

Last month, detectives recovered Sh1.2 billion in fake US dollars at Queensway Barclays Bank in Nairobi.

The cash was found in a customer’s safe deposit box by a team of DCI Flying Squad officers. Five suspects were arrested and charged in court.
