MOMBASA, Kenya, Apr 2 – The war on corruption is unstoppable, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga said on Tuesday in Mombasa.
Speaking in Mombasa during the launch of the Huduma Namba registration at Likoni’s Shika Adabu chief’s office, Odinga said Kenya’s corruption trend is worrying.
“According to Transparency International Corruption Index, Kenya is currently in the same corruption league with Bangladesh, DR Congo and Nigeria. The problem with some people is that they want to eat in every government project, that is the disease we now want to eliminate in the country,” he said.
However, he said some people are now not comfortable with the sustained war on graft.
Odinga cautioned Members of Parliament who are proposing laws to trim the powers of the DPP and DCI to investigate and prosecute corruption.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro is said to have come up with a proposal to trim the DPP’s powers to investigate and prosecute cases of corruption by amending the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
In the proposal he also seek to lock out the DCI investigations of corruption cases.
Odinga said the move by the MP is meant to cripple the two entities that have been in the fore-front in the war against graft in the country.
He described the MP as being impractical.
“We want to salvage our country from this graft scourge and some MPs are now coming up with laws to trip the powers of DCI and DPP, is this MP really sane,” posed Odinga.
He said those who are worried that the war against graft is targeting them are weary that they might have been involved in some of the scandals.

Odinga asked them to prepare because the DCI and the DPP will be coming for them.
“Ukiona kichwa cha mwenzako ananyolewa, chako kitie maji ama utanyolwewa bila maji. We fully support the war on corruption,” said the former PM.
He was accompanied by two Cabinet Secretaries, Joe Mucheru of ICT, Simon Chelugui of Water, and two deputy governors; Dr William Kingi of Mombasa and Vihiga’s Dr Patrick Lumumba Saisi.
Others were MPs Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe), Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare) and Senators Issa Boy (Kwale) and Mombasa’s Mohammed Faki.
