NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 21- Police are investigating three different incidents where Automated Teller Machines belonging to Barclays Bank were tampered with and Sh11.5 million stolen within a span of 48 hours, between Friday and Saturday.
The first incident is believed to have occurred on Friday when unknown people tampered with Kenyatta National Hospital Barclays Bank ATM system and stole Sh4.3 million.
According to a police report seen by Capital FM News, a security guard manning the facility alerted the bank that the ATM was not functioning.
The discovery was made Saturday after a team from the bank went to fix an alleged malfunction only to find the cash gone.
The second incident happened along Mutindwa Road in Kamukunji on Saturday after another ATM machine loaded with Sh7 million was interfered with and Sh6.2 million stolen.
Detectives are set to retrieve the CCTV footage from the machine in a bid to establish what happened and arrest those involved.
The third incident according to police was at Mater Hospital where one million shillings was erroneously withdrawn while the CCTV cameras there had been smeared with petroleum jelly to obstruct the view.
