Student hacked to death in broad daylight at Moi University

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 9 – A female student pursuing medicine at Moi University was hacked to death early Tuesday by a man said to be her lover.

Ivy Wangeci, a sixth year-medicine student was hacked to death by her boyfriend who attacked her with an axe within the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The man then tried to escape but was cornered and beaten up by boda boda operators before he was rescued and handed over to police.

DCI boss George Kinoti says an investigation into the killing has been opened.

Moi University Vice Chancellor Isaac Kosgei has condemned the incident, describing Tuesday as a “a very sad day for us. This morning we lost one of us to an attack by an unknown assailant. We are working with the security forces to piece together what happened and we will update you in time…I want to request all of you to remain calm.”
