NYS trainees lynch two suspects over missing phone

The two are said to have been killed by the trainees inside the NYS Camp where they were frog marched to answer questions regarding the loss of the phone Sunday evening/FILE

SUBA SOUTH, Kenya, Apr 29 – Two people were lynched by National Youth Service (NYS) trainees based at Lambwe NYS Camp in Suba South constituency on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone belonging to their boss.

The two are said to have been killed by the trainees inside the NYS Camp where they were frog marched to answer questions regarding the loss of the phone Sunday evening.

The NYS trainees are said to have raided the houses of the two suspects at Nyadendi Trading Centre alleging that they had stolen the mobile phone of the officer in charge of the camp at a pub where the officer and the two were drinking.

The two were casual labourers.

They were beaten to death using crude weapons by the NYS trainees at the camp after they failed to get the lost phone from them.

According to the employer of the two, the trainees lynched them without giving them time to explain themselves.

The county security team led by County Commissioner Irungu Macharia and County police Commander Esther Seroney visited the camp where the incident occurred.
