NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 3 – Lawyer Assa Nyakundi is due in court Wednesday where the police are expected to make an application seeking more time to detain him to enable them finalise investigations into the bizarre killing of his son.

Nyakundi has been admitted to the Nairobi Hospital for nearly three weeks soon after police detained him when he went to report that he had accidentally shot and killed his 29-year-old son near their Nairobi home.

According to a police report, the two were in their car and had arrived near their house in Muthaiga when Nyakundi decided to change the position of his pistol in the car.

He told police that he “accidentally” pulled the trigger on his Glock pistol, discharging one bullet that killed his son.

His son was buried on Tuesday in a low-key ceremony at the Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi where Nyakundi was conspicuously missing.
