NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero together with five other former officials have been charged with the illegal payment of Sh68 million to Wachira Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates.
Kidero however pleaded not guilty to all the charges among them money laundering, abuse of office and unlawful acquisition of public property.
The former Governor was arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) alongside George Wainaina who served as his Chief of Staff and two other officials.
He had been booked at the Kilimani Police Station, where he spent the weekend and earlier, he had stated that he was a victim of malice but did not reveal who is targeting him and for what reasons.
The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji approved the arrest and prosecution of 17 officials over the payment to Wachira Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates.
