NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 3 – The High Court has reduced stringent bail terms imposed on Samburu Governor Moses Kasaine from Sh100 million cash to Sh10mn.

Justice Mumbi Ngugi directed the governor to deposit and alternative bond of Sh30 million with a surety of similar amount to secure his freedom from custody.

“It is my view that bond terms imposed on the applicant are excessive and may well amount to denial of bail. It has not been demonstrated that he is flight risk and I note the prosecution did not oppose his application for bail.”

She however ruled that the remaining orders of the trial court shall remain in force pending hearing and determination of a petition by the Director of Public Prosecutions as directed by the trial court.

“The applicant has been barred from accessing county offices, so the apprehension that he may interfere with witnesses is not a consideration,” she ruled.
