Fist fights as KDF soldiers storm Langata Police Station to rescue colleague

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 10 – There was drama at the Langata police station Tuesday night after five soldiers went to seek the release of a colleague who had been arrested over assault claims.

Nairobi Regional Commander Philip Ndolo told Capital FM News that the arrested soldier had assaulted a traffic officer along Kitengela Road before he was arrested and detained at the Langata police station.

According to a police incident report seen by Capital FM News, the KDF soldier “wrestled him to the ground claiming the (police) were blocking the road.”

Ndolo added that five KDF officers later stormed the police station and demanded the immediate release of their colleague.

A confrontation ensued but the soldiers were later subdued and handed over to the military police for processing.

“The soldiers most probably had been drinking and they did not appreciate what our officers were trying to do. As a result, there was a scuffle, but we handed them over to the military which will deal with them in their own way,” he said.

He pointed out that the officers at the station refused to release the KDF officer which led to a confrontation and forced one of the police officers to shoot in the air as he raised alarm.
