Ex-Nairobi Governor Kidero due in court over Sh68mn scandal

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is due in court Monday after spending the weekend in jail over a Sh68 million scandal.

Kidero will face five charges, among them money laundering, abuse of office and unlawful acquisition of public property.

The former Governor was arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) alongside George Wainaina who served as his Chief of Staff and other officials.

Speaking following his arrest, Kidero stated that he was being persecuted following the dawn arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission detectives over a 68 million shillings scandal.

He had been booked at the Kilimani Police Station, where he spent the weekend alongside five others but said he was a victim of malice but did not reveal who is targeting him and for what reasons.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji approved the arrest and prosecution of 17 officials over the payment to Wachira Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates.
