NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 5 – Three people arrested for having allegedly caused violence in Ugenya early Friday morning ahead of the mini-poll are due in court.

While confirming the incident, the area police boss Willy Simba stated that the three will be arraigned in court once they have been processed.

It is alleged that they were caught “with deadly weapons and are chief suspects in an incident where a voter was severely slashed almost to death around Udira Kamrembo polling station.”

The ODM candidate in by-election Chris Karani attributed the violence to actions by his opponents that sought to intimidate him.

“We had an incident where person was hurt and fortunately enough, we were able to catch up with the vehicle which were carrying the thugs. He was arrested and was taken to the police station. As I am speaking, the suspect is at the Ukwala police station,” he stated.

Karani exuded confidence of a win in the exercise stating that he has what it takes to serve the people of Ugenya.
He however urged voters to undertake the exercise peacefully as they strive to elect a leader of their choice.

The mini election has attracted four candidates including Christopher Odhiambo Karani (ODM), David Ochieng’ (MDG), Brian Omondi (Thirdway Alliance) and Daniel Juma (GDDP).
