Police officer arrested in Mathira over murder of worker

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 29 – A police officer in Mathira West, Nyeri County will on Friday be arraigned in court after he was arrested for murder.

According to a report from the Kiamachimbi police station, the officer is accused of allegedly killing his shamba boy who had attempted to defile his 5-year-old daughter.

“2018 at around 1350 hours the said officer made a report vide OB 8/23/9/2018 that his shamba boy aged 25 years attempted to defile his daughter aged 5 years while at his homestead in Ngaini village within Ruthagati location MR BK. 837517 about 9 km north of the station,” the report stated.

Following this, he tried to cover up the incident by reporting that the shamba boy was beaten by an irate mob before he rescued and rushed him to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

However, after investigations, the Director of Public Prosecutions found him culpable and ordered that he be arrested and charged.

“Police officers visited the scene and inquiry file no. 2/2018 was opened and forwarded to ODPP for perusal and advise thus recommending his arrest after it was established that the said police officer assaulted the deceased occasioning him severe injuries.”
