EACC arrests Mathare Hospital official soliciting bribes from firearm owners

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb, 23 – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested the Senior Assistant of Medical Services at Mathare Hospital on bribery allegations.

Georgina Wangui Kamunge is said to have demanded for bribes from firearm owners seeking mandatory psychiatric evaluation which is part of a rigorous vetting process for firearm owners seeking to be licensed.

Mathare hospital is said to have declined to issue receipts for a Sh 5,000 fee charged for psychiatric evaluation.

Detectives from EACC said they had obtained recording of bribe demands by Kamunge and other suspects.

Mathare Hospital has since suspended the psychiatric evaluation for firearm owners.
