Public can now anonymously report rogue cops to internal unit

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 9 – The National Police Service has introduced an internal reporting system where the public can anonymously complain against rogue officers.

The system under the Internal Affairs Unit is known as the Anonymous Reporting Information System.

Under the system, Kenyans can send a toll free message on 40683 or call 0800721230 after which they will be provided with a tracking code for their complaints.

One can also download the Anonymous Reporting Information System application on their Android phones.

This was made public ahead of the launch of the Internal Affairs Unit new offices at the KCB Towers in Upper Hill.

Human rights groups have been pushing for the move which they say will guarantee impartial investigations over a complaint among police officers or from the public.
