NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 9- A Kenya Red Cross volunteer in Garissa County has sustained injuries Saturday morning after the vehicle they were travelling in came under attack from unknown assailants.
The volunteer was among other Kenya Red Cross officials who were on board when they were attacked.
The incident happened in Ruqa area in Ijara, Garissa County.
In a statement, Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Abbas Gullet has termed the attack as unfortunate, targeting people who selflessly serve the respective communities in the area.
“The injured volunteer was evacuated to Masalani Sub-County hospital for stabilization and has already been evacuated to Malindi by one of our ambulances for further treatment,” it reads.
“The rest of the team were not injured and are currently undergoing counselling and psychological support due to the traumatic incident.”
Police have launched investigations to establish the motive of the attack and bring to book the culprits.
