NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 9 – Professionals will now be among those targeted in the next phase of police recruitment in a bid to have a new cadre of cadet officers who will comprise trained experts in various fields.

The professionals, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi said, will offer their skills within the National Police Service.

Those targeted are holders of Upper Second Division degrees in ICT, law, medicine, engineering, education, psychology, among other areas.

This is set to enhance professionalism within the service which is struggling to restore its dented image from a troubled past.

Matiangi was speaking on Friday during the launch of Internal Affairs Unit offices in KCB Tower, Upper Hill.

“We have established an ultra-modern Crime Research Centre backed with a Forensic Laboratory that needs highly trained professionals that are fully dedicated to the Police Service. We are also keen on promoting the officers’ welfare in various areas including their housing to enable them to serve with the assurance that they have decent shelter for their families,” the CS said.

He added that “The officers will be granted a housing allowance and the freedom to lease their desired accommodation. We have reviewed their present housing and will duly follow the law in transiting to the new arrangements.”
