NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 14 – Traffic Police Commandant Samuel Kimaru has clarified that fire extinguishers, jump starters, first aid kits and tow ropes are not essential for private cars.

This is a section of motorists in private cars complained of police harassment for lack of the non-essential tools.

“It is wrong for any police officer to ask a private vehicle owner for a fire extinguisher, first aid kits and towing rope,” he said a statement where clarified jump starters are not essential for private vehicles as well.

The Traffic Commandant asked motorists to report officers who have asked them for the items through hotline number 020-260-381-4

Kimaru said that only public service vehicles are required by law to have the tools on board.

The Police crackdown on PSVs on Monday embarked on a renewed strict enforcement of the Michuki Rule of road safety following a series of accidents along different highways that have claimed the lives of many Kenyans.
