Court allows further detention of fake doctor Wairimu pending case mention

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 14 – Quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu will be detained at Pangani police station for 10 days to enable police conclude ongoing investigations.

Magistrate Benson Zakyo on Wednesday allowed police to continue holding him after the prosecution told the court they need more time to conduct forensic tests.

The court heard that police are yet to record witness statements over allegations of obtaining money by false pretenses, operating a clinic without a pharmacy license, and practicing without a certificate.

Mugo was allowed to file a formal complaint against two police officers that allegedly tortured him upon arrest.

At the same time the court gave the fake doctor the green light to seek medical attention over injuries he sustained during the alleged assault.

Mugo who has been on the run was apprehended last night in Gachie, Kiambu County at a relative’s house.

According to police, Mugo has several associates some of whom have been arrested and charged in court while others are still on the run.

The case will be mentioned on November 23 for further directions.
