Woman implicated in car theft syndicate set free

The trial magistrate said in the absence of evidence the court cannot hold the two since no criminal charges have been preferred against them/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 19 – A woman suspected to have been involved in a car theft syndicate has been set free.

This is after Senior Resident Magistrate Elector Riani ruled that the evidence presented could not indict Ann Mutheu Ndunda and Johnson Macharia Karagu, her co-accused.

The trial magistrate said in the absence of evidence the court cannot hold the two since no criminal charges have been preferred against them.

Constable James Mwangi had last week applied for a custodial order to hold the suspects for a period of 10 days to allow him investigate the ownership of vehicles held by the two.

He stated that on October 9, 2018, flying squad police officers while on patrol, spotted a motor vehicle which they believed to have been stolen in their possession and as by law conducted investigations.
