NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 8 – Voting is currently underway in the Migori senatorial mini-poll.

The by-election follows the death of Ben Oluoch who died after a battle with throat cancer.

A Commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Abdi Guliye said they have put all mechanisms to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free transparent and fair manner.

Guliye urged residents to come out in large numbers and vote for a leader of their choice according the constitution.

Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator Leonard Katana assured the residents of proper security during the entire exercise.

“Our mandate is to provide a secure safe environment to pick their Senator. We will only ensure that IEBC fulfils its mandate. We will provide security throughout the whole process,” he stated.

Five candidates are battling it out for the seat and these include Businessman Eddy Oketch of Federal Party of Kenya and ODM’s Ochillo Ayacko, perceived to be the front runners.
