NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 29 – Lugari Member of Parliament Ayub Savula, ex-ICT Principal Secretary Sammy Itemere and former Director of Government Advertising Agency (GAA), Dennis Chebitwey are due in court Monday morning over an advertising scandal that cost the tax payer Sh2.5 billion.
The three were arrested at the weekend after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji approved charges against them and twenty others over the theft of Sh122 million.
They are among 23 individuals and five companies whom the state believes siphoned money through briefcase entities, while at the same time billing parastatals pretending to have placed the advertisements in the media.
The suspects will face charges of obtaining money by false pretenses, making a document without authority and aiding the commission of a felony, among others.
Itemere, Chebitwey, Dickson Nyandiage, Henry Mungasia and Susan Akinyi will face an additional charge of abuse of office.
