NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 5 – Migori Governor Okoth Obado has filed an application at the High Court to be released on bail over medical reasons.
Obado has been admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital since Tuesday after he was taken ill at the Industrial Area Prison, where he is remanded in Sharon Otieno’s murder case.
In his application, the governor says he has a severe back problem on the lumbar spine which started affecting him in 2013 and his condition has become worse since his detention.
His lawyer Roggers Sagana says even though he was admitted to the Kenyatta National hospital, his condition has not improved.
The prosecution is however opposed to Obado’s release on bail, citing security concerns for witnesses.
Obado is charged alongside his aides and a former Migori County Assembly Member over the murder of Sharon who was his lover.
