Obado, co-accused charged afresh with killing Sharon and unborn baby

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 8 – The High Court has consolidated Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s case in the murder of Sharon Otieno with that of his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and County Clerk Caspal Obiero.

Following this, they were all charged before Justice Jessie Lessit with two counts of murdering Sharon and her unborn baby.

“The application to consolidate the three cases is allowed and as the prosecution has indicated, the lead file will be criminal case file number 46 of 2018. The accused persons are Zachariah Okoth Obado, Michael Juma Oyamo and Caspal Ojwang Obiero,” she stated.

Justice Lessit then proceeded to read the charges to them.

“In the second count, the three of you are facing the same charge of murder. The particulars are that you Zachariah Okoth Obado, first accused, second accused Michael Juma Oyamo and third accused Caspal Ojwang Obiero between the 3rd and 4th of September this year at Owade area, In Rachuonyo sub-county within Homabay county, you murdered baby Sharon,” she stated.

They however denied the charges and the bail application has now been set for Friday. They will in the meantime remain in remand custody.

The prosecution also sought for time to respond to an affidavit filed by Sharon’s family and the Federation of Woman Lawyers (FIDA), over the suspects’ fresh bid to be released on bail.

Obado who has been in remand for the last two weeks was moved from the Industrial Area Prison to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after falling sick after suffering stomach complications.
