MPs Ganya, Rasso freed on bail pending charges over Marsabit clashes

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 – A Nairobi court has released two Marsabit County legislators accused of fuelling clashes that have so far claimed 14 lives on bail.

This is after the court declined to a request by the prosecution to detain North Horr MP Chachu Ganya and his Saku counterpart Dido Ali Rasso for 21 days pending investigations.

Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot says he freed the two for the sake of reconciliation efforts among the warring communities in Marsabit.

“I find no compelling reasons to have the two detained for the sake of the ongoing reconciliation efforts between communities living in Marsabit County,” he ruled.

They have been directed to despot a bond of Sh1 million or a cash bail of Sh250,000.

They will present themselves to authorities on a date to be agreed upon.
