NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 17 – The hearing for bail by Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Jowie is set for Wednesday next week.
The ruling was made by High Court Judge James Wakiaga following mention of the case in which the two entered a plea of “not guilty” in the murder of Monica Kimani on Monday.
Justice Wakiaga also directed that probation officers should prepare and submit a social inquiry report before the hearing and that Jowie should be treated at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
The case came before Justice Wakiaga after Justice Jessie Lesiit directed that the matter be heard by another judge.
The prosecution has objected to the release of the two on bail on grounds that Maribe is highly connected and could easily interfere with witnesses, while Jowie is a threat to himself, having tried to commit suicide after the alleged murder.
But Maribe has filed an affidavit saying her child is likely to suffer if she is not freed pending determination of the case.
