NAIROBI, Kenya Oct 19 – All is set ahead of Saturday’s Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kakamega County.
Speaking after leading the National Celebrations Steering Committee inspecting Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega county where this year’s Mashujaa day will be held Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said he is satisfied with security and other preparations for Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kakamega.
President Hage Geingob will be a guest to President Uhuru Kenyatta who will be in a company of his Deputy William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said the County is privileged to be hosting this year event.
“Tomorrow we will be privileged to host thousands of guests during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at Bukhungu Stadium. I want to warmly welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta & his guest President Hage Geingob of Namibia, Deputy President William Ruto, and Raila Odinga to Kakamega. We will be here to honour Kenyan citizens who have made outstanding achievements in the past and current generation,” said Oparanya.
Leaders from the region led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala have different expectations from President Kenyatta ahead of the event.
They have said they expect President Kenyatta to address western Kenya’s poor economic growth during in his Mashujaa Day speech.
State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena on Sunday said the President’s agenda during the celebrations would be sugar and maize politics that have been a pain to people of Western Region.
“On the sugar issue, President Kenyatta said the government cannot continue pumping more money to these companies because the money goes to endless pits. The President said the region and the sugar mills need a revival plan that works,” she said.
