NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 19 – Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario is expected in court Friday over the Sh55 million 2016 Olympics scandal.
This is after he turned himself in to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations following a court order.
Wario and athletics legend Kipchoge Keino had been out of the country until Wednesday when they arrived and headed to the DCI on Thursday morning accompanied by their lawyers.
Senior detectives investigating the case however stated that they will use Keino as a witness against other former Sports Ministry officials who are accused of various omissions and commissions leading to the loss of the money.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji had approved charges against Keino, and he was even ordered to present himself to court.
Detectives said they will only charge Wario who was appointed Kenya’s Ambassador to Austria, Haron Komen and Patrick Nkabu who also turned themselves in on Thursday.
Former Sports Principal Secretary Titus Ekai and two others were charged over the scandal and freed on a cash bail of Sh1 million each.
