NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 3 – Kenyans seeking services at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation offices were on Wednesday treated to a rare show, with goodies being dished out in a show of appreciation.

Those seeking services during the customer service week like clearance certificates received flowers and other tokens.

It was a welcome move for many who view the police as “cold.”

Whether uninformed or not, police have been for long been accused of all manner of vices.

And though a series of reforms have been initiated, it has been a long painful wait for Kenyans, who hope to see a people-friendly service, serving all equally.

Other than the goodies, other said they want the friendly nature to go past the customer service week.

“Guys, we’re celebrating #CustomerServiceWeek by appreciating all our amazing customers! We invite YOU, our valued customers to make your application this week & receive a small token of our gratitude. We’ve got lots of goodies to giveaway! You’re Welcome!! Thank you!” reads a statement posted on the DCI twitter handle.

In one of the photos, Deputy CID boss Gideon Ashmalla was interacting with members of the public, who were visibly looking excited.

Some who reacted to the gesture expressed optimism saying the long-awaited changes are slowly taking root and maybe it is time for Kenyans to reap the fruits.
