NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 5 – Five Chinese Nationals were on Friday arrested in Nairobi’s Lavington area with their country’s military uniform and other deadly arsenal.
Police said the items recovered include smoke bombs, tear gas canisters, boots, laptops among others – which police say pose a serious threat to Kenya’s national security.
The Director of Immigration Department Alex Muteshi, who displayed the arsenal to journalists, said the suspects do not have valid work permits.
“We got information about the Chinese operating an illegal security firm and our officers conducted a raid in their premises where they arrested the Chinese nationals with a number of items and we are taking this matter very seriously due to the security nature of the items recovered,” he said.
Muteshi said the Immigration Department is working with other security agencies to establish their motive.
He further stated that following Interior CS Fred Matiangi’s directive, they will continue to crack down on illegal immigrants and foreigners operating in the country without valid work permits.
