NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 11 – The High Court will on Thursday next week sentence Miss Lang’ata Women’s Prison 2016 beauty pageant winner Ruth Kamande after she was found guilty of killing her boyfriend.

Justice Jessie Lesiit is expected to issue the verdict against Kamande who stabbed Farid Mohamed multiple times in 2015.

Lesiit had reserved her ruling on sentence after hearing mitigation from the defence.

The court heard that Kamande who was was 21 years old when she committed the offence is remorseful.

Her lawyers further argued that she has been in custody for the last two years and nine months, during which she has reformed and kept on praying five times a day.

The judge heard that Kamande has also been taking several training courses including theology and other extra-curricular activities as part her spiritual upbringing.

The prosecution however told the court to uphold its judgement and hand her the death sentence as provider under Criminal Procedure Code.

During her verdict, Justice Lesiit had said that the actions of the accused were malicious and that Kamande should be convicted of murder.

The judge said that accused had stabbed the deceased several times, as shown by the prosecution evidence.

The court dismissed allegation of rape claimed by the accused, since the same was not established by doctors who carried out medical examination.
