NAIROBI, Kenya, May 16 – The memorial service for the 48 people killed in the Solai dam tragedy will be held on Wednesday ahead of the burials.

The event will be held not far away from the tragedy site and will be attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto as well as other top dignitaries.

According to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mwongo Chimwanga, some of the victims will be buried Wednesday after the memorial, while others will be buried on Thursday.

An investigation on the cause of the tragedy is going on even as a section of lawmakers called for the arrest and prosecution of the dam owner who has since apologized, and blamed the heavy rains.

A postmortem was held Tuesday in Nakuru for the 48 victims, who perished in the worst flood-related incident.

Authorities have said a search will continue for missing people, even though they are convinced that most or all the missing people have been found.
