MACHAKOS, Kenya, Feb 2 – A man on Thursday evening stabbed his daughter to death, before turning the same knife on himself.
The man committed the heinous act after a quarrel with his wife, at their residence in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
Police are yet to establish what the young couple was quarreling about, but the deceased’s wife has since recorded a statement with police.
The murdered daughter, 9, was their only child.
Such killings are on the rise in the country with psychologists and counselors attributing them to infidelity, financial strain, and depression.
On January 31, a man in Nyeri County set his house on fire killing his wife and two-month-old son.
He died in the inferno.
The assailant, David Maina, 30, engaged the wife Esther Wanjiku, 21, in a confrontation according to eyewitnesses before he locked himself up alongside the wife and kid inside the house, after which he lit the fire using some petrol he allegedly procured for that purpose.
Thursday’s incident took place just a week after a family of five was buried in an emotional sendoff in Mathira, Nyeri County following a similar scenario where a husband and father obliterated his family.
Two kids were also killed in similar circumstances and buried in Karichen village also in Kieni, within Nyeri County.
