NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 5 – Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has urged parents to only pay the fees stipulated in the recently released guidelines.

He at the same time cautioned school administrators against charging extra school fees and emphasised the need for the guidelines to be adhered to without exception.

He encouraged parents to report any incidences of students being turned away for not paying the higher fees to their respective Regional Education Coordinators, County Directors of Education and sub-County Directors.

“Fees guidelines, which should be adhered to without exception, have been released to school administrators. Parents are advised to only pay the amount in the fees structure,” he said.

The Education CS was speaking during the Wings to Fly commissioning program at the Kenyatta University where he stated that the government has created adequate places for last year’s KCPE candidates to access secondary education.

The government has dedicated infrastructural grants, amounting to Sh6.4 billion for the expansion of the capacities in 2,710 regular and 30 special needs existing secondary schools.

He indicated that this has led to the construction of 2,740 classrooms, 349 laboratories and 326 blocks for sanitation facilities, among others.
