, MOMBASA, Kenya, Jan 9 – Three people were on Tuesday morning killed in an accident involving a truck and saloon car on Mombasa Road near the Manyani Prison.
According to the Officer Commanding the Voi Police Division Joseph Chesire, the collision was caused by the driver of the saloon car who was overlapping.
The saloon car rammed head-first into the truck causing the death of all three on board.
The number of road fatalities spiked in the lead-up to the December holidays with as many as 150 killed in a fortnight.
The Salgaa black spot proved to be particularly treacherous with dozens killed over the festive period.
This led the National Transport and Safety Authority to take several measures including banning night travel and prohibiting public service vehicles from venturing outside their assigned routes.
Concerned, President Uhuru Kenyatta himself implored the police to take decisive action against road offenders as the authorities as a whole urged caution.
