No amount of tantrums will reverse transfer of principals – Matiangi

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 12 – Acting Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi says no amount of tantrums by politicians will reverse the transfer of teachers which is currently being undertaken across the country.

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government during a meeting with Regional and County Commissioners, Matiangi said that anyone harassing transferred principals will be arrested and taken to court.

“We are bringing to an end the mentality of people acting as their own boss, we have to function as a whole,” Matiangi stated.

His statement comes even as many newly posted school principals were ejected from their schools, in the wake of increased cases countrywide.

Schools affected so far are Cardinal Otunga in Kisii, Friends Kamusinga in Bungoma and St Joseph Girls Kibwezi where Makueni MCAs blocked education officials from escorting a new principal to the school today.

In schools like Kapenguria Boys, the management has ordered its immediate closure following riots by students who were opposed to the transfer of their principal James Omayo.

There has been controversy in various schools, after acting Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi ordered mass transfers that appear to have angered many, leading to law suits that are still pending in court.
