Newly appointed police commanders report to work

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 8 – The newly appointed police commanders report to office on Monday to find dozens of pending issues awaiting their direction.

The Director of Criminal Investigations George Maingi Kinoti alongside the new Kenya Police Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua and Noor Gabow of the Administration Police were appointed on Friday last week in acting capacities and ordered to take over on Monday.

Kinoti comes to office when many matters remain unsolved including the murder of former ICT manager at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chris Msando, student Maryanne Wairimu, businessman Jacob Juma, the killing of Bobmil Industries owner Bunty Shah among others.

Deputy Inspector General in charge of Administration Police Samuel Arachi and his counterpart in charge of Kenya Police Joel Kitili have been replaced, and their names forwarded to the public service commission for redeployment.

The Director in charge of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro was not spared either.

Former Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko was nominated to the position of Cabinet Secretary.

In his address to the nation this afternoon, Kenyatta said he received Tobiko’s resignation hence considering him for the position of the Cabinet.
