MP Babu Owino denies assaulting guard, freed on bond

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 22 – Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has been charged with assaulting a security guard in Nairobi’s Westlands area.

Babu was charged alongside his bodyguard Fanuel Owino but they all denied charges of assault, using abusive language and creating a disturbance.

Charges read out to them indicate that they assaulted David Gichagu Wagana, a parking attendant at Fortis Towers Compound, on January 11.

The two appeared before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi where they were freed on a personal bond of Sh20,000 each until March 22 when the case will be heard.

Babu was arrested on Friday and locked up at Parklands Police station until Sunday when he was freed on bond following intervention by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.
