NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 18 – The government has embarked on an initiative to ensure all Form One students who are yet to report to school at the Coast do so by latest Monday.

The initiative dubbed “Tupeleke Watoto Shule” was launched by Acting Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi and will be enforced by the local administration in conjunction with the county education officials.

According to Matiangi, many students in the Coast region admitted to secondary are yet to report, citing lack of school fees among other factors.

“And the following the directive by the President that the national government administration be involved from the Regional Commissioner to the Assistant Chief working with local county leadership to move around villages starting with going to the primary schools where these children did their KCPE to find out from the schools where are those children,” Matiangi said on his visit to Mombasa on Wednesday.

Last week, the Education Ministry was forced to extend the reporting deadline due to low turnout in some regions.
