IEBC seeks candidates names for Kitui West by-election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says on its Twitter handle it requires all interested political parties to also submit names of contestants for the poll/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 9 – Political parties interested in participating in the March 26 Kitui West by-election have until Wednesday to announce when they will be conducting their party nominations to choose their flag bearers for the contest.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says on its Twitter handle it requires all interested political parties to also submit names of contestants for the poll.

“Each political party intending to participate in the Kitui West by-election shall submit the names of the persons contesting in a party primary and the date of the party primary on or before 10th January, 2018,” read the post by the IEBC.

IEBC had on Friday announced it has scheduled the Kitui West parliamentary seat by-election for March 26.

Similarly each political party is expected to finalise the primaries and resolve all intra party disputes on or before January 19.

Those intending to vie as independent candidates are expected to submit their names and symbols they intend to use on or before Saturday last week.

The seat fell vacant after the demise of Francis Nyenze who died on December 7 at the age of 60 after battling with colon cancer for almost a decade.

The widow to the late lawmaker Edith Nyenze has been fronted by the Wiper Party as the front-runner to succeed her late husband though she is yet to publicly declare her interest in vying for the position.
