NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 19 – The High Court in Machakos has upheld the election of Yatta Member of Parliament Charles Kilonzo.
Justice Aggrey Muchelule dismissed the petition filed by former MP Francis Mwangangi on grounds that he lacked sufficient evidence and that the case was filed out of time.
Mwangangi was challenging the validity of Kilonzo’s win arguing there was massive voter bribery, his agents were denied access to polling stations and that the Returning Officer was compromised by his opponent.
Kilonzo was declared winner after garnering 18,320 votes against 11,383 for Mwangangi.
Speaking after the ruling, Mwangangi voiced discontent and said he will appeal the case within 30 days.
