NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 12 – The family of the late Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze has organised a fundraiser to be held on Wednesday in the city as part of efforts to assist with preparations ahead of his burial slated for next Tuesday.

Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua who is the Nyenze Family spokesman said the date had been agreed on after a meeting of the family and the organising committee.

Wambua announced that the event will be held at the Tin-Tin Restaurant.

He explained that the fundraiser has been necessitated by the huge turnout they expect at the burial of the former Minority Leader in the Eleventh Parliament.

Nyenze who served as a Cabinet Minister in former President Daniel arap Moi’s regime will be laid to rest at his home in Kyondoni Village, Kitui West Sub-County.

In Moi’s cabinet, he headed the dockets of Environment and Natural Resources in 1997 and Sports in 2001.

In his tribute to the departed MP, Opposition leader Raila Odinga said Nyenze steered the Coalition MPs in the 11th Parliament in a difficult and hostile environment when he was the Minority Leader in the National Assembly.

While President Uhuru Kenyatta eulogised the departed MP as a champion of national interests and who would never allow narrow selfish interests to jeopardize the unity of Kenyans.
