NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 22 – Kwale Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo was last night carjacked in what Chief Justice David Maraga has termed as shocking to the entire judiciary.
Magistrate Mulekyo was carjacked in Diani but later released by the carjackers, safe and unhurt.
Chief Justice Maraga has called upon the police to ensure the culprits are arrested and beef up security for all the judiciary staff and Kenyans in general.
“We thank God she wasn’t hurt…We want to see better security for all our staff, and indeed all Kenyans,” says Maraga.
In October, the driver of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was shot and injured after two men on a motorbike accosted him along Ngong Road, Nairobi.
The Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association is set to issue a comprehensive statement on the security of judicial officers.
