Kenya celebrates 54 years of independence/FILE
NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 12 – Kenya commemorates 54 years of independence on Tuesday.
This follows a hotly contested presidential election that has left the country polarized.
President Uhuru Kenyatta in his Jamhuri Day address is therefore expected to make a call to unity and make a commitment to working for the betterment of all Kenyans regardless of their political leanings.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga had threatened to swear himself in as President on this Jamhuri Day in protest of the October 26 presidential poll which he’s refused to recognise.
On Monday, the Supreme Court found that he failed to formalise his withdrawal from the race.
